Close friends and family are a constant source of inspiration for ACG Sunderland’s Milan Bos. The accomplished artist has a penchant for portraiture and enjoys creating both realistic and non-realistic artworks derived from the people around her.
“I love having the ability to create my own unique artworks and really use my creativity to its fullest,” says the gifted 15-year-old, whose fascination with drawing, painting and portraiture has been a lifelong passion.
“I’ve always been arty. My family is quite artistic, and my older sister is really into art, so I’ve been immersed in it from a young age. When I was little, I used to win nearly every colouring-in competition I entered, so I think that has also helped cement my love of art!”
Milan’s flair has certainly been recognised in the classroom. Art teacher Hayley Carter describes her as “creative, hardworking and organised” and says she has always shown a talent for the subject.
“Milan has consistently referenced her artist models and followed instructions carefully, which has allowed her to make such excellent progress on the Cambridge curriculum IGCSE art and design course so far,” explains Ms Carter. “I have been so impressed with her work ethic and am always excited to see what she will do next.”
In the decade Milan has spent at ACG Sunderland, her work has gone from strength to strength.
“I think the ACG Sunderland art programme has supported me a lot throughout the years. Having dedicated art classes even in Primary helped me build many creative skills while I was young. This year my aim is to keep developing my work and also pick up some new techniques I can use both in and out of class.”
The small classes sizes and one-on-one attention from teachers ensure the Year 11 student gets all the support and inspiration she needs to thrive – not just in the art room but in all aspects of her life at ACG Sunderland.
“Art is obviously my favourite subject, but I also enjoy computer science as it is so different from the other subjects I take. Music is another big part of my life, and I have spent many years doing jazz, hip hop, lyrical, ballroom and Latin dancing. It’s fair to say, though, that I spend the majority of my time drawing and creating art either for myself or to post on social media.”
Eventually, Milan would like to channel her artistry into a career, although she is not yet sure what form that will take.
“One day, I hope to find a job that incorporates artistic elements into it. I’ll definitely continue creating art as it’s something I truly love.”
