ACG Sunderland is proud to unveil its brand-new tennis courts - a $1.5 million investment marking another milestone in the school’s ongoing commitment to providing world-class sporting facilities for its students.
What was once a vacant field has now been transformed into a vibrant, purpose-built tennis complex featuring three premium courts, officially completed in October 2025 after construction began in May 2025. The project was delivered by TigerTurf, industry leaders in high-performance sports surfaces, ensuring that the courts meet professional playing standards and will serve students for years to come.
Supporting the Growth of Tennis at ACG Sunderland
Tennis has rapidly gained popularity at ACG Sunderland, with growing student participation and impressive competitive results on both national and international stages. The new facilities will further nurture this momentum - providing more opportunities for training, inter-school competitions, and recreational play.
Among the school’s rising stars is Year 9 student, Kira Brukvina, whose recent achievements highlight the strength of the school’s tennis programme. Kira competed in two major tournaments this year - the New Zealand Indoor National Championship (14U) in Auckland and the Rod Laver Lead-in Championship (14U) in Brisbane. She placed fifth in singles at the New Zealand event and earned second place in doubles at both tournaments - an incredible feat for her age category.
A Space for Every Student
Beyond fostering elite talent, the new courts also enhance the school’s physical education programme and provide a welcoming space for all students to enjoy sport and active recreation. Whether for beginners learning to rally for the first time or experienced players perfecting their serve, the courts will be a hub for skill development, teamwork, and healthy competition.
Head of Sport, Philip Keen says “These new courts are more than just a facility - they represent our belief in the power of sport to build confidence, discipline, and community. We look forward to seeing our students enjoy and excel on them for many years to come.”
Investing in the Future
The tennis court development is part of ACG Sunderland’s wider strategic vision to create a holistic educational environment that supports every facet of student life - intellectual, physical, and social.
The new courts are a testament to that forward-thinking approach, offering a tangible benefit to current and future generations.
“At ACG Sunderland, we believe in giving our students every opportunity to thrive,” says Nathan Villars, Principal. “These new tennis courts are not just an investment in sport - they’re an investment in wellbeing, community, and the lifelong benefits of active participation.”
Looking Ahead
As the school looks to the future, these courts stand as a symbol of progress - a place where potential is discovered, friendships are built, and excellence continues to grow.
From a vacant field to a vibrant arena of sport and school spirit - ACG Sunderland’s new tennis courts are set to inspire generations of players to come.
