Our ACG Sunderland WSTC team returned safely to Auckland at the end of April, marking the conclusion of an exceptional international journey. After two months of intensive preparation, coordination, and competition, students have come home with valuable experience, new skills, and many unforgettable memories.

This year’s World Schools Team Championship brought together 26 teams from 19 countries, offering a highly competitive and enriching environment. Our students rose to the challenge with determination, resilience, and teamwork, ultimately securing 9th place overall. While the team had set ambitious goals for themselves, this result reflects their commitment, discipline, and ability to perform under pressure on a global stage.

More significant than the final ranking, however, was the depth of learning gained throughout the experience. Competing against some of the strongest teams in Asia and beyond provided students with new perspectives on strategy, communication, and problem-solving. Each round contributed to their growth, building confidence and sharpening the skills they have developed through sustained training and collaboration.

The journey was also an opportunity for personal development beyond the competition itself. Students engaged in interviews and media activities at the event, gaining exposure to real-world communication settings and learning how to represent themselves and their school in an international context. These experiences added an important dimension to the championship and will remain lasting highlights for those involved.

The success of this trip was made possible through strong support from across the school community. From the approval to participate at short notice, through to assistance with logistics, communication, and fundraising efforts, the encouragement from school leadership, teachers, and staff played a vital role in enabling the team to take part in this global event. The students and coaching staff extend their sincere appreciation for this ongoing support.

Reflecting on the experience, Principal Nathan Villars commented:

“We are incredibly proud of our ACG Sunderland students for the way they represented themselves and our school on the international stage. Their dedication, teamwork, and resilience throughout this journey are exemplary, and the learning they have gained will stay with them well beyond the competition. Opportunities like this are what make education truly transformative.”

As the team reflects on their time away, the experience stands as a milestone in their academic and personal journeys. The lessons learned, relationships formed, and challenges overcome will continue to influence their development well beyond the competition itself.
